Two people were arrested last week after a citizen notified a sheriff’s deputy sitting in Danielsville’s city hall parking lot that the driver of a white Chevy truck who pulled into Hardees had been “driving all over the roadway.
The driver, Teri Lynn Boyd, 30, 440 Friendship Church Road, Danielsville, was subsequently charged with DUI/drugs, weaving over roadway and fleeing or attempting to elude.
Her passenger, Adam Joshua Manders, 33, of the same address, was charged with possession of marijuana less than an ounce and obstruction.
According to the incident report, Officer Matthew Pilkington went to Hardees, where he saw a white pickup turn from Hwy. 29 onto Hwy. 98 West at the red light. He followed the truck, which crossed the centerline almost striking an oncoming vehicle. The truck driver refused to stop despite Pilkington’s blue lights and continued to drive recklessly, crossing the centerline, fog line and going into the ditch numerous times before finally coming to a stop just beyond Irvin Kirk Road. A probation officer, who heard the call was waiting at the stop sign and proceeded to pull in front of the truck. Pilkington approached Boyd, who refused to lower the window and had the truck still in drive. After getting the door open, Pilkington reached over to put the vehicle in park and at that point Manders reportedly reached for his arm. Office Alan Stratton then went to the passenger side where Manders was, while Pilkington attempted to talk to Boyd, who he noted had slurred speech and was unsteady on her feet when he had her get out of the truck. She reportedly told him she had taken Xanax and methadone.
Meanwhile, Stratton had to struggle with Manders, who resisted his commands to put his hands behind his back. Pilkington went to assist and had to taser Manders to get him to comply. Both were taken to jail.
In another arrest, Anita Dantzer Watson, 31, 42 Sandy Springs Road, Athens, was charged with pedestrian under the influence of alcohol or drugs after she allegedly tried to steal a bottle of wine and a can of beer from Ingles in Hull.
According to the incident report, officer Shawn Rhoades responded to the report by an Ingles manager that a woman had tried to steal the alcohol from the store. The manager said she confronted the woman and got the merchandise back. The manager told Rhoades that the woman had a handgun in the small of her back and told store employees not to “mess with her” and then left walking towards Old Danielsville Road. The officer found the woman (Watson) walking on the side of the road at the Clarke County line. The woman did not have handgun on her person at the time of her arrest, but the officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol on her breath.
A man, who had given the woman a ride earlier, came back to the store to tell officers he had picked her up as she was walking on Hwy. 72 West. She reportedly told the man that her car had run out of gas and he gave her a ride to get gas. When they came back to where she had left her car, he said they couldn’t locate it. He then told her he was going to Athens and could take her home and that they stopped by Ingles so he could get gas for his car and she went inside the store. He said that when she came out of the store and he found out she had taken the alcohol, he told her to get out and employees told him he could leave, but he said he decided to come back to the store to talk with officers about the incident.
