Battery and cruelty to children were reported on Bud Freeman Road recently after a woman said she was struck by her mother-in-law in the presence of her children.

According to the report, the woman said she was at her mother-in-law’s house sleeping when the woman came in, woke them up and told them they had to leave. She said she was up, dressed and getting her children ready to leave when her mother-in-law struck her in the chest. She said her mother-in-law struck her again with her children standing between them. She then left and called 911. She was advised of the warrant process.
In another incident, two people were arrested after an officer was summoned to do a welfare check on a woman on Mae Drive.
Theodore Javis Sims, 22, of 42 Mae Drive, Danielsville, was charged with pedestrian under the influence of alcohol and his girlfriend, Lacey Nicole Tucker, 20, of 2844 Hudson Rivers Church Road, Danielsville was charged with possession of an alcoholic beverage below legal age.
According to the incident report, Tucker’s mother asked for the welfare check on her daughter. Officer Shawn Rhoades made contact with Tucker, who said everything was all right and that it was a misunderstanding. As Rhoades was leaving the residence, he spotted Sims walking in the middle of Mae Drive and stopped to speak with him. He noted that Sims had a strong smell of alcohol and admitted he had been drinking. He agreed to a roadside breath test and was taken into custody. Sims told Rhoades that he was Tucker’s boyfriend and that he lived on Mae Drive but had been kicked out of the residence earlier in the evening. As Sims was being placed in handcuffs, Tucker stood in the driveway saying she did not want Sims to go to jail. She also stated that she had been drinking and “was only 20 years old.”
She also agreed to a breath test and was arrested as well.
Other incidents on file at the sheriff’s office recently included:
•Two high school students were taken to the principal’s office recently after the school resource officer reportedly found them performing “compromising sexual acts” in the parking lot of the school sports complex. According to the incident report, high school assistant principal David Coberly notified school resource officer Mark Jerome that he had received a phone call that students were “hanging out” at the sports complex across from the high school.
Jerome went to the area, where a female there told him that a couple of high school students had been having sex in a parked car in the parking lot for the past couple of days.
Jerome then drove up behind the car and noticed that the rear windows were fogged up and the car was shaking. The officer walked to the car and looked in where he reportedly saw a juvenile male and female “doing compromising sexual acts.” Jerome knocked on the rear window and backed up, asking the couple to put their clothing on and exit the car. The female reportedly told Jerome “this is not what you think it is” when they got out of the car. Jerome told them they could explain that to high school principal Chad Stone.
•A man on Blacks Creek Church Road reported that someone took two trail cameras that he reportedly put up to try to catch people trespassing on his property. He said he has had problems with his neighbors allegedly taking things in the past. He did not have serial numbers for the cameras at the time of the report, but said that one of them had “if you can read this, this camera is not for sale, it has been stolen” inscribed on the back of it.
•A man on Mason Mill Road reported that his wife is having problems with prescription medications. He said she is taking more than she is prescribed and that he is concerned for the safety of his young son, who is riding around with her. She was reportedly staying with her mother in Winterville, and Oglethorpe County was notified to perform a welfare check on the child. The man said he became concerned when she recently went outside to use her cell phone that when he checked the messages he saw that she was texting a woman they know in an attempt to get 10 prescription narcotics from her. The officer explained the TPO process and he was also advised to contact DFCS about the child.
•A DFCS worker had to be called to take custody of a 2-year-child after her mother was served warrants at her Christmas Circle residence last week. According to the report, the woman was home alone with the child and could not find anyone to take care of her. The warrants were for failure to appear (felony) out of Franklin County and a failure to appear (misdemeanor) out of Clarke County.
•A woman on Dogwood Hills Road reported that her daughter’s vacant home was burglarized.
•Copper wiring and metal screens were reportedly stolen from chicken houses on Norman Dove Road.
•Warrants were issued for a man after he reportedly harassed a woman on Spratlin Mill Road by knocking on her door and by calling her on the phone. According to the incident report, the man went to the woman’s door and was kicking it to gain entry when she called 911. The man then left prior to the officer’s arrival, but continued to call her on his cell phone. The officer answered and instructed him not to call again, but he continued to call, telling the officer that wasn’t a “d*!# thing he could do about it.” The officer told him he would secure warrants for his arrest and if he came back to the property, he would also obtain a warrant for stalking. The victim was informed of the TPO process and she left her home to stay with a friend.
•An officer was dispatched to shoot an injured deer at the corner of Colbert-Danielsville Road and Applebaum Street.
•Someone on Madison Street reported that her vehicle had broken down in early October and a friend had it towed to someone who was supposed to keep it until she could get it fixed. She later reportedly found it was sold for scrap on Dec. 9 at a local scrap yard.
•Two firearms, a Ruger GP100 revolver and a Remington 870 shotgun, were reportedly stolen from under a woman’s bed on Timberlane Drive. She said she was not sure when they were taken, but remembers seeing them under there a couple of months ago.
•Harassing phone calls were reported at a Hwy. 106 South residence when a woman said someone she and her husband know has been calling their cell phone to leave threatening voice messages about her husband, who is a convicted felon. The messages stated repeatedly that the woman was going to call the police because the man is a “convicted child molester” who lives too close to schools and advising his wife to “watch her children.” The couple was advised of the TPO and warrant process.
•Simple battery was reported on Shiloh Fort Lamar Road last week after a woman said her mother-in-law grabbed by the neck during a family argument. She was advised of the warrant and TPO process.
•A Craftsman toolbox and tools were reportedly stolen from a shop on Colonial Drive.
•A man on Childers Road reported that he thinks his son is being picked on while riding the bus after his son came home with a raw spot on his arm. The child reportedly told his dad he “did it to himself” with an eraser after the other kids on the bus talked him into it. He told the officer it was a “sissy test” and after he did it, the other older kids would not do it. The father said he wanted a report filed and that he plans to talk to school officials about it.
•A man on Colonial Drive reported that he came out on his porch in time to see two white males running from his outbuilding carrying his TV. The officers were unable to locate the suspects and the man could not provide a serial number.
•A woman on Hwy. 106 North reported that she was in her house when she saw a white male knocking on the door to see if anyone was at home. She did not go to the door, but observed the man go under a garage/shelter area and walk back down the driveway carrying a full can of gas. He later came back and backed his truck up to the shelter and took a leafblower that belonged to her. The woman confronted him and he said that he just needed to borrow the blower and would pay her for the gas. He then said he was sorry, returned the blower and left.
•A go-cart and helmets were reportedly stolen from a home on Norwood Road.
•A window on a vehicle parked on Virginia Lane was shattered last week. There were no suspects at the time of the report.
•Battery FVA and theft by taking were reported on Hudson Rivers Church Road last week after officers conducted a welfare check on a woman there. According to the report, the woman said she and her live-in boyfriend are having problems due to his drug problem. She said they got into an altercation at Food Mart on Hwy. 98 that day and that he threw water in her face and took her cell phone. She said she was trying to take him to get some help and he just took off walking down the road. She said an altercation a few days prior had left a bruise on her arm. She also said he had taken a pistol from her about two days ago and had not returned it. She thinks he stole the gun for drug money. She was advised of the warrant and TPO process.

•A man on Colonial Drive reported that he came out on his porch in time to see two white males running from his outbuilding carrying his TV. The officers were unable to locate the suspects and the man could not provide a serial number.
•A woman on Hwy. 106 North reported that she was in her house when she saw a white male knocking on the door to see if anyone was at home. She did not go to the door, but observed the man go under a garage/shelter area and walk back down the driveway carrying a full can of gas. He later came back and backed his truck up to the shelter and took a leafblower that belonged to her. The woman confronted him and he said that he just needed to borrow the blower and would pay her for the gas. He then said he was sorry, returned the blower and left.
