Long-time Madison County Industrial Development and Building Authority member and former chairman Tom Joiner resigned his seat on the board Dec. 20, citing health issues and the travel involved from where he now resides in Tucker.
Joiner joined the IDA 11 years ago, when the authority was just getting its start, he said Dec. 20.
“It is certainly a great loss for us,” IDA executive director Marvin White said. “He had always done a great job on the board.”
White related stories of how Joiner would go beyond the call of duty as chairman of the board during the water system’s construction, often going out to look at the construction to see firsthand how it was going.
“He said ‘if I’m gonna’ put my name on it, I want to see it’s done right,’” White said. “He’s given lots of hours to us and I can’t tell you how much we’ll miss him.”
Joiner has also been a member of the Madison County Chamber of Commerce since its inception in 1985.
