The first meeting of the new year in Ila meant reappointments to positions for members of the city council.
The council approved the appointments unanimously during the Jan. 3 meeting as follows: mayor pro-tem Don Freeman; city clerk Susan Steed; city attorney Pat Graham; water department Mike Coile. The financial institution for the city’s banking will be First Citizens Bank.
City department heads were also selected with D. Freeman, Troy Butler and Coile on the water department; D. Freeman and Nathaniel Hobbs on the street department; Coile and D. Freeman on the fire department; and Hobbs and Peggy Freeman on public safety.
In other business, council member Butler suggested that the city consider hiring a Class IV water operator part-time. The mater was tabled until the February meeting. The February meeting will also be when the council decides the duties, working hours and salary of a potential part-time operator.
The council also approved Steed to purchase a new flag for the flagpole in Ila.
