Census figures expected in March

Madison County officials, along with leaders across the state, are waiting on the release of 2010 Census figures.

According to county Census official Sandra Webb, the data should be released to Georgia next month.

“It is my understanding the final Census numbers for Georgia will be announced in mid-March; they are releasing three states at a time,” wrote Webb in a recent update to county commissioners.

The Census figures are used in a variety of ways. Governments use the data to determine where to allocate funding. The data will also be used by the General Assembly this year to redraw district lines in the state.
