The annual LZ Friendly Memorial Day Weekend is set for May 23-26 at LZ’s Johnny McElroy Road campsite.
“All veterans are welcome,” said organizer Bosie Griffeth, who noted that LZ began in the mid 80s as a place for Vietnam veterans to get together and share their experiences. But the Memorial Weekend embraces veterans of all wars.
The weekend will start at 8 a.m. Friday and conclude at 8 a.m. Monday. The cost is $35 and includes two meals a day.
The highlight of the weekend is the candlelight memorial service on Saturday between 8:30 and 9 p.m.
This year’s musical entertainment will be the Blue Monkeys from Winder and Bucky and the Buckheads from Atlanta. There will be karaoke on Sunday.
