Senior Sam Marcotte was chosen as this year’s STAR student, completing his SAT test with the school’s highest score during one sitting, along with being in the top 10 percent of his class.
He chose high school language arts teacher Trenton Wilkes as his STAR teacher. The pair was honored at a recognition ceremony last week by the Chamber of Commerce during its monthly coffee hour.
Chamber president Marvin White, chamber chairman Brian Kirk and interim superintendent Allen McCannon recently presented certificates to Marcotte and Wilkes, and resolutions were presented by the office of Congressman Paul Broun and by Jerry Barrow of Athens Technical College.
