Couple faces charges after domestic dispute
A married couple was arrested recently following a domestic dispute at their home on Reese Lane.
Richard Allyn Griffiths, 50, and Tammy Lynette Griffiths, 42, of 124 Reese Lane, Hull, were each charged with one count of battery FVA.
According to the incident report, dispatch reported that they received a call from Mr. Griffiths, who stated he was beaten on by his wife, who left the residence in a white Nissan Maxima. While officers were talking with him, they received another call from dispatch saying that Mrs. Griffiths was at the sheriff’s office waiting to speak with an officer.
Mr. Griffiths said his wife had been calling his brother names all day and that she had “nutted up” that evening because she had not gotten her methodone that day and began hitting him for no reason and to tear up the kitchen blinds. He said she knocked the phone out of his hand and then started to hit her head on the closet door. He had scratches with dried blood on his arm. Meanwhile, Mrs. Griffiths was found to have marks on her face, knee and chest, which she stated were inflicted by her husband.
Both were arrested and taken into custody.
In another incident, two men who escaped from the Comer police during a traffic stop last week were apprehended the next day by sheriff’s deputies.
Nicholas Alexander Atkinson, 19, 390 Jockey Club Drive, Athens, was charged with escape, theft by taking, unlawful to hinder or obstruct an official in the detection or destruction of destructive device and possession of marijuana less than an ounce. According to the incident report, officer Jason Luke went to Kudzu Road where one of the men had been spotted. Luke found the suspect (Atkinson) walking along the edge of the road near the woods, still in handcuffs and he was apprehended without incident. The other suspect, James Christopher Lemmonds, 18, 3314 Price Mill Road, Bishop, was found later on New Hope Church Road and charged with unlawful to hinder or obstruct official in the detection or destruction of a destructive device, escape, theft by taking, unlawful to possess, control, manufacture, deliver, distribute, dispense, administer, purchase, sell, etc. obstruction and speeding. Officer Matthew Pilkington was forced to chase Lemmonds into the woods on foot where he caught and placed him under arrest. Lemmonds was also still wearing handcuffs. During the chase, Pilkington reportedly fell and rolled, injuring his left hip.
In another arrest, a brother and sister were both taken into custody after they got into an argument over the brother’s girlfriend that turned physical. Shavaris Isisah Morris, 20, 199 Piedmont Road, Hull, was charged with battery after his sister told officers that he hit her in the face, knocking her over a table.
His sister, Jacqueline Shanese Morris, 22, 199 Piedmont Road, Hull, was also arrested after dispatch advised she had an outstanding failure to appear warrant.
Others arrested by law enforcement in Madison County recently included:
•Brian Keith Moore, 35, 1008 Planter Gunnell Road, Hull, was charged with obstruction and battery/simple battery FVA following a domestic dispute with a woman at his home. According to the incident report, the woman was allegedly bitten by Moore during an altercation and had called 9-1-1. She was found standing at the intersection of Planter Gunnell and Neese Commerce Road. Moore was combative when officers confronted him and he was tasered.
•Donald Ray Coleman, 42, 1064 Wages Bridge Road, Nicholson, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, giving false name, address, or birthdate to law enforcement officers and two counts of obstruction after he allegedly ran from an officer during a traffic stop on Paoli Road. Officer Bradley Free deployed his taser on Coleman after he allegedly ignored commands for him to stop. According to the incident report, a bag Coleman threw as he was running was found to contain a set of digital scales and a small bag of methamphetamine.
•Ashley Charmaine Faust, 24, 547 East Carver Drive, Athens, was charged with kidnapping after she allegedly took her biological child who she does not have custody of, without permission.
•Shannon Coreen McCoy, 43, 185 Rustwood Drive, Athens, was charged with criminal trespass and obstruction after she refused to leave a residence when she was asked to and for resisting arrest.
•David C. Patrick, 18, 2613 Hardman Morris Road, Colbert, was charged with unlawful to possess, control, manufacture, deliver, distribute, dispense, administer, purchase, sell, etc. (drugs) after he allegedly brought marijuana onto school grounds in his vehicle.
•Mitchell Lee Weathersbee, 36, 1401 Irvin Kirk Road, Lot 24, Danielsville, was charged with public drunkenness, obstruction and a probation violation after the mother of his child reported that he had taken their 5-month old out of the mobile home and was walking around the park with the child while he was drunk. The officer located Weathersbee and the child and returned the child to its mother. Weathersbee was arrested after a struggle.
