A total of 54 applications were submitted to the Department of Transportation for the GATEWAY Grant.
“I have good news on the GATEway Grant,” said Mayor Chris Peck. “We got it!”
Peck revealed exactly what receiving it entailed.
“What this means for us now is that we’ll receive a grant for up to $25,000 to go towards the beautification and enhancement of Hwy. 72,” he said. “But even though it’s a grant, we’ll still have to spend the money up front and have the DOT reimburse us.”
Council member Evelyn Power expressed excitement.
“This is so great,” she said. “We’re going to be able to do so much with this funding.”
Peck said the grant will help the city.
“This $25,000 coming our way for the improvements of Hwy. 72 will be extremely beneficial to the look of our city,” said Peck. “This is a great thing that we’ve needed, and I think that once we’re done it’s going to look really good!”
I guess things like education don't matter as much as pretty flowers and grass, huh?
How can the idiots in charge of our state raise taxes on anything, when they are throwing away money on this kind of BS? The DOT must have money to burn.
I'll bet if the City of Colbert just ask, the fine people in that area would volunteer their time (and money) to beautify their town without the rest of the state's taxpayers footing the bill for it.
Put that all together and you have volunteers working in ditches by the highway, while been protected by the sheriff deputy. My opinion, Colbert would look more like a chain gang city.
You want talk wasteful gov't spending. Look somewhere else. I'm sure some gov't is spending 2 million plus dollars on how crickets chriping and it's affect on gobal warming.
I over analyze everything? Why do you need the police dept to protect people working on the side of the road?
Maybe the business owners don't think the area needs beautification. If not them, then who does? The politicians? Let them buy the flowers and dig a few holes.
Hey, what's a few bucks here or there, right?
