Madison County receives one storm-related call

Madison County’s 911 center received only one storm-related call early Thursday morning when a massive storm system rolled through Georgia.

The 911 office received a report of a tree across Neese-Commerce Road at Minish Cemetery Road around 2:25 a.m. Thursday.

But the weather system that moved through Georgia during the early morning hours was historic. As of 10:45 a.m. Thursday, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution was reporting a death toll in the South of 200, including 13 in Georgia and 131 in Alabama.

The worst weather in Georgia was in the northwest corner of the state. Atlanta television meteorologists stayed on air into the early morning hours, providing updates on the path of the weather system.

The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Okla., said it received 137 tornado reports around the regions into Wednesday night.

Jackson EMC reported no power outages in Madison County. They reported five outages affecting 394 customers in Gwinnett County, 12 outages affecting 51 customers in Jefferson and one outage affecting two customers in Gainesville.

This morning, JEMC dispatched four crews, totaling 26 men and 16 vehicles, to assist two other North Georgia electric cooperatives which sustained significant damage. Two crews were sent to aid Amicalola EMC, headquartered in Jasper, and two to Habersham EMC, headquartered in Clarkesville.
