Davis pleads guilty to bank robberies

The former Marine who robbed a Colbert bank twice has received a life sentence for his crimes in Madison County Superior Court.

Mark Alexander “Alex” Davis changed his plea from “not guilty” to “guilty” recently toward the end of jury selection prior to his bank robbery trial.

He will be eligible for parole in 30 years, according to Northern Judicial Circuit district attorney Bob Lavender.

Davis robbed Colbert’s First Citizens Bank last July 24 and again Aug. 27.

Davis pleaded guilty May 4 to two counts of armed robbery and two counts of aggravated assault.

Investigators said Davis, a 20-year-old Marine stationed at Camp Lejuene in North Carolina, committed the crimes while in Madison County visiting family last year.

My aunt was gonna be on the jury. She had already said if they tried for a life sentence, she was going to vote Not Guilty come hell or high water. Dude would have gotten off! Shouldn't have robbed the bank...shouldn't have plead guilty...dude has a gift for making all the wrong choices.

Well, you making that comment about a supposed member of the jury could have damaged the case. That's a comment you keep to yourself or your aunt would be replaced with another juror very quickly. As a juror, you're not supposed to walk into a courtroom with your mind already made up. That's the entire point of the legal process.

Did keep it to myself, until the moron plead guilty. He could have gotten off. Instead, he's gonna rot in prison. Like I said, dude made all the wrong calls!

Does anyone know anything as to why he did this? It just seems so strange, like he wanted to get caught. I guess it will come out in the trial.

Read. There will be no trial. He admitted complete and total guilt with his guilty plea. Didn't get a deal either - LIFE in prison.

What is the point in pleading guilty if you're getting life in prison? Should have taken his chances with a trial - couldn't have been any worse, and from the looks of the above posts, someone on the jury wasn't willing to convict him if the penalty was life. Dumb.

The trial is already over and he is now serving a life sentence (thank God).. Tbone, why in the world would your aunt vote not quilty?? Does she not realize this guy came into a bank TWICE and put a gun in the same poor lady's face TWICE? That could do some real psychological damage to an innocent victim. If this is truly how your aunt felt then that just shows her complete ignorance. This piece of trash got what he deserves!

the judge assigns the sentence AFTER the jury finds the defendant guilty.The aunt wouldn't have known what his sentence would have been.If he did get off,he would have done this or worse again and likely wouldn't have stopped until he killed someone.Judge made the right call.I wonder though if he goes to military prison...
