MCHS teacher found dead Friday

A Madison County teacher was found deceased this morning by law enforcement.

Tammi Barker, a long-time business education teacher, died today. The Elbert County resident has a husband and two children.

A cause of death has not been released.

Madison County Superintendent Allen McCannon offered condolences to the family and those who knew and cared for Barker.

“Our hearts and prayers are with her husband, her children, her extended family — as well as the staff at the high school and the students,” said McCannon.

McCannon, who worked with Barker at the high school during his time as principal in the 1990s, said Barker was a good teacher.

“She was a dedicated teacher,” said McCannon. “She cared about her students, was well liked and ran a strong classroom. There will be a lot of seniors participating in graduation tonight who will be hurting.”

Ms. Barker was such a great person and teacher. She was always my favorite teacher in high school. She really cared about us, the students. She always helped us, however she could. She was an amazing woman.

My heart really goes out to her family.

Just know, she is in a much greater place now, and you all will be reunited one day.

She was a wonderful soul.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs. Barker's family. She was one of the best teachers that I have ever had the chance of meeting. Mrs. Barker was a wonderful lady and she will be missed greatly.

Mrs.Barker was my favorite teacher all through out my high school career. I rememeber the first day of her class and having to fill out a slip of paper telling her what we would like to take from that class, my response was to type on a keyboard with out looking. That year I was awarded most improved in her class, she helped me achieve that goal and never gave up on us students when we were frustrated.

Mrs.Barker will be missed very much she was such a wonderful woman, I feel honored to have had her as my teacher at MCHS.

My prayers are with her family, and all affected by her passing. She is in a much better place now, looking down on us with her never failing faith.

I had Mrs. Barker this year and i really enjoied her as a teacher. She was a very true and respectful person. She was a person who could bring you up just by a smile. I'm truly going to miss her. My prayers go out to her family and everyone else who knew her.

I had the honor of having Mr. Barker while I was in high school and I really enjoyed her as a teacher and individaul. She was the kind of teacher that took time out for her students and made sure they understood every concept of what you were learning. If you didn't she would work with you with all of it. She always had a smile on her face and she will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Tammi Barker was more than a teacher to me. I had her 3 of my four years in high school, including this past year. She alwasy approached each student as if they were one of her own children. She will be forever missed by the faculty, staff, and students of Madison County.
