Likewise, Poole will also further her education at college this fall, albeit a little closer to home at the University of Georgia, where she’ll stay on campus and major in biology. She’ll also twirl with UGA’s marching band.

But both girls say they’ll miss the life they leave behind at their high school alma mater.

“I’ll miss the families we’ve built within the schools over the years,” Poole said.

“It’ll be hard to leave the friends we’ve made here,” Atkinson agreed.

Atkinson is the daughter of Charles and Teresa Atkinson, of Comer. She also has an older sister, Molly.

Poole is the daughter of Michael and Kim Poole, also of Comer.

Approximately 296 Madison County High School seniors will “turn their tassels” as they receive their high school diplomas Friday night at the Classic Center in Athens.

Apart from Atkinson and Poole, other speakers for the 7 p.m. event are Kayla Freeman, John Cornish and Timia Skelton.
