Athens man arrested after fight on Sandy Springs Road
An Athens man was arrested recently after he allegedly got drunk and rode a scooter to his cousin’s Sandy Springs Road home uninvited to start a fight.
Richard Tharon McDaniel, 39, 7036 Smokey Road, Athens, was charged with battery and terroristic threats and acts. According to the incident report, two officers arrived to find a woman at the end of the driveway and yelling coming from the home. There they found two men holding McDaniel, whose nose and mouth were bloody, on the ground. They told officers if they let go of him he would try to fight. Officers handcuffed him and then the men released him. The woman said McDaniel is her cousin and that he came to their home unannounced and uninvited. She said when he gets drunk he goes “crazy.”
Shortly after his arrival an argument ensued and McDaniel allegedly swung at his cousin’s husband, but struck her instead on top of her head and kicked her leg. Her husband and another man at the scene said they took McDaniel to the dining room floor in an attempt to get him to stop. He allegedly busted his nose on the floor. When they tried to get him out of the house he continued to try to fight, so they put him on the ground again once outside the house and held him there until officers arrived. While on the way to jail, the officer noted that McDaniel repeatedly stated that he was going to “kill them two boys when he gets out of jail.” At one point, he also stated that he was going to go over there and “kill them boys with a baseball bat when he got out of jail.” The victims were advised on how to obtain a TPO against him.
