Neese area water line work, which began last week, is progressing at a good pace, according to industrial authority officials.
County water department utility director Steve Shaw told the IDA Monday night that more than a mile of water line from Sanders Road at Neese Diamond Hill Road to Hwy. 106 had been installed by the contractor, Griffin Brothers, during the first week of construction.
Water line construction will continue from Hwy. 106 down Neese Commerce Road next. And Shaw said waterline installation is also under way at Bryant Drive on Hwy. 29 South, where it will tie in with the system at Diamond Hill.
“They are moving along and hope to be done by mid-July,” Shaw said of Griffin Brothers.
Shaw said residents in the area who would like to get on the new sections of county water line should call the IDA and water department office at 706-795-9865, or come by. Residents in that area can sign up for water service during construction with a reduced tap and meter fee of $900. Normal tap and meter fees are $1,550.
In a related matter, Shaw said the water department billed 749 water customers in April. Water usage was at five million gallons.
Shaw said the water department had picked up eight new customers since Neese water line construction began and hopes to pick up at least a total of 100.
