The powerful storm system that swept through Madison County Thursday evening led to numerous calls of downed trees and left about 2,000 people in the Neese area temporarily out of power.
Between 7:26 p.m., Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday, the Madison County 9-1-1 Center received 55 calls reporting trees and power lines down due to the early evening wind storm.
“Though a spotter reported a possible funnel cloud, there were no reports of a tornado touchdown,” said 9-1-1 director David Camp. “All damage is believed to have been caused by straight line winds.”
Trees and power lines were reported down on the following roads. Some of these roads had multiple incidents:

Sparking power lines or fires caused by downed power lines were reported on Duffel Martin Road, Kudzu Road, Johnny McElroy Road, Madison Street in Comer, Corey Drive and Colbert Danielsville Road.
Damage to property was reported at 5067 Highway 98E (downed tree struck a vehicle at Paoli Junction), and at 69 Chambers Lane (downed tree struck a home, occupants were not injured and able to leave the house).
UPDATE:
Between 7 a.m. and noon Friday, May 27, 1 trees were reported down on Arnold Bottoms Road, Davids Home Church Road, Waggoners Grove Church Road, Moriah Church Road, and Cliff Griffeth Road. A low hanging phone line was reported on Nowhere Road at Horace Elnut Circle.
At 9:22 p.m., May 26, 2011, Jackson EMC reported a total of 2,010 customers in Madison County without power.
During the 24-hour period of May 26, 2011, the Madison County 9-1-1 Center received 189 calls on its 9-1-1 trunks.
“This is the largest number of 9-1-1 calls received by the center in any 24 hour period since we began operations in 1999,” said Camp.
