A Madison County 10-year-old boy was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Hwy. 441 at the Sandy Creek Nature Center Friday afternoon around 1 p.m. A second Madison County child died Saturday afternoon from injuries sustained in the accident.
Evan Escoe, Hull, was killed instantly when a truck slammed into the back of the car he was riding in. Samuel Hart, 10, Comer, was sitting next to Escoe in the back seat of the vehicle and was critically injured in the Clarke County accident. The Clarke County coroner confirmed that Hart died Saturday afternoon, according to The Athens Banner Herald.
The Athens Police Department worked the accident. And attempts to reach accident investigators Saturday morning were unsuccessful. According to the Athens paper, an official with the Clarke County traffic unit said all passengers in the car were wearing seat belts. The car, driven by Samuel Hart’s mother, Elisha Hart, was struck from behind by a truck, as Hart slowed for a car in front of her that was turning into a business.
More details will be provided as contact is made with investigators.
This is such a sad story. My children go to school with the 2 Hart boys and ride the bus with them. Our hearts are with both families involved and we truly hope that the community can come together and support everyone during this trying time.
