Frank Edwards honored at Red Cross Heroes Breakfast

Edwards has been in the fire service for 49 years. He began dedicating his life and time to help save people’s lives in 1961, when he joined the Commerce Volunteer fire department and continued his service after relocating to Hull in 1975, by joining the volunteer fire department. Edwards served as secretary, training officer and chief of the department in Hull, as well as vice president of the Madison County Firefighters Association, and he currently holds membership in the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs and the National Fire Academy Alumni Association.

Edwards serves as rescue captain in the Hull district for Madison County Rescue. He also serves as associate director of the Madison County Emergency Medical Services, where he is an active first respondent and coordinator of 60 countywide medical first responders.

Edwards also voluntarily teaches American Red Cross Health Disaster Services and Safety classes. He is an advanced in-service trainer in the following classes: shelter manager, shelter operations, shelter simulations, preliminary and detailed disaster damage assessment and client services. He has field disaster experience on large-scale disasters as a supervisor for damage assessment, outreach, welfare inquiry, client services, and has acted as a shelter manager.

“For the past 49 years, Frank Edwards has continuously demonstrated characteristics of a true hero in his community,” Red Cross leaders said.
