County government and school leaders traveled to Atlanta recently to meet with the state General Assembly’s redistricting map specialist.
Both county and school districts — which are not identical — must be redrawn this year since new Census figures reveal changes in population in each district.
County commission chairman Anthony Dove said each district in the county must be split equally in terms of population. So, Madison County’s total population — when split five ways (for five districts) — equals 5,624. Each district in the county must be within one percent of that population figure.
