Renovations at the Madison County Library are moving along ahead of schedule.
Branch manager Suzie DeGrasse said construction workers have started work on the foundations for several additions to the front of the building.
“They are working really well with us,” DeGrasse said of the Salloum Construction.
Plumbing is also being installed for the library’s new bathrooms.
The expansion project will increase the library’s size from 10,000 to 17,500 square feet. The library now holds 32,226 books, audio and visual materials. The expansion will give the facility a 100,000 capacity for such materials.

Our library seems to be functioning just fine during all that construction. I was concerned about heavy equipment parking on the roots of that lovely tree by the victory garden and let several people know. Now I see that one third of its roots have been ripped away for, I think, future parking. It will take several years for the tree to die due to its stored energy reserves, but it will be gone and will have to be taken down (if it doesn't fall from its weakened condition during a storm).
