County leaders decided the best new face to lead the recreation department is the most familiar.
Robin Pendleton, a 27-year veteran at the Madison County Recreation Department, is the new recreation department director. She replaces Dick Perpall, who retired this month after 32 years with the department.
“We have a long-time employee there (in the recreation department) and we need to give great consideration to giving that employee a chance,” said BOC chairman Anthony Dove when asked for a recommendation on the hire.
Others at the table shared Dove’s sentiment. Commissioners praised Pendleton and the recreation staff, saying the department is well run and board members liked the idea of promoting someone in the department.
“She has been there 27 years experience,” said commissioner Stanley Thomas. “And the park has done extremely well because of the staff and the people who work there.”
Commissioner Mike Youngblood made the motion to hire Pendleton.
“We’ve got a blessed group there that does a really good job,” he said.
Seven people were interviewed for the position.
The commissioners voted unanimously 4-0 to name Pendleton to the post. Commissioner Dewitt “Pete” Bond was not in attendance. The board then voted 4-0 to set the new department head’s salary at $43,200.
