87-year-old charged in shooting

According to the incident report, officers arrived at Townes’ home to find the victim and a woman sitting on the front porch. The victim was bleeding from the leg and said that Townes had shot him with a shotgun and was still inside. Officers spotted Townes inside the residence and pointed their service weapons at him, ordering him to show his hands. He complied and was taken into custody. The victim was taken to Athens Regional with non-life threatening injuries. According to chief deputy Shawn Burns when an investigator asked Townes what happened, he replied, “I’ll tell you what happened, I shot his @$$.”

In another arrest, a woman and her mother were taken into custody last week after they got into a fight at their home on Chandler Ray Road.

Jasmine Tanika Taylor, 18, and Simone Hall, 40, 37 Chandler Ray Road, Athens, were each charged with one count of battery/simple battery FVA. According to the incident report, Hall said Taylor bit her on the arm, but Taylor said she was just trying to defend herself.

•Benjamin Kris Skipper, 37, 115 H.M. Culberson Drive, Danielsville, was charged with theft by taking after his landlord spotted him at Athens Auto Wrecking with scrap metal that belonged to him. According to the report, he told Skipper to load it back up and take it back. The landlord then called 9-1-1. According to the report, Skipper said he was behind on his rent and planned to give the money he got for the metal to his landlord.

•Bonnie Claire Stith, 30, 3443 Five Forks Road, Bowman, was arrested for obstruction and public drunkenness after officers were called to the Sunset Biscuit Barn in Danielsville to a report of a possibly intoxicated person.

•Horacio Osorio Aguilar, 32, 1014 Lowe Road, Comer, driving without a valid license.
