adison County’s Elmer “Buddy” Christian, the Athens police officer slain in the line of duty in March, was remembered in a solemn ceremony July 11, with his daughter, Callie, and wife, Melissa, cutting the blue ribbon on a road named in the late officer’s honor.
Mayor Nancy Denson presented Melissa Christian with a key to the city. Buddy Christian was also awarded a posthumous purple heart.
As Athens officials took the podium July 11, Buddy Christian’s mother, Carolyn, held Christian’s two young children for much of the ceremony, offering a soft kiss on the back of their heads. Young son Wyatt held a stuffed puppy through the occasion.
