A Colbert man was arrested recently after he allegedly pointed a loaded rifle at people attending a party on Madison Boulevard in Colbert.
Tomas Martinez, 46, 133 Madison Avenue, was charged with five counts of aggravated assault, one for each of the people he pointed the weapon at.
According to the incident report, three officers responded to the scene just after midnight Sunday where a complainant there said the suspect (Martinez) was last seen in the driveway next to the road armed with a long gun. The officers searched the area finding the gun, still loaded, about 10 feet away from the driveway in the grass. Martinez was located by officer Jason Luke about 30 feet further away hiding in a wooded area on his belly with his hands underneath him. He was handcuffed and taken into custody. During a search of his person, officers located a 16-inch fixed blade knife in a sheath in the waistline of his pants. They also reportedly found eight rounds of ammunition in his pockets.
A witness at the scene said he and others were wrapping up a party when Martinez, who they did not know, showed up uninvited and asked for a beer. He was told they were shutting down the party and cleaning up to go home. He left for a short time, but came back and asked for a beer a second time. This time he was given one, which he drank before asking for another one. When they refused to give him a second drink, Martinez reportedly said he was going to “get his gun and shoot somebody.” Numerous persons reportedly told him they didn’t want any trouble and to “go home and sleep it off.” He then reportedly left, but came back in a few minutes carrying the gun. He stopped about 30 feet away and raised the gun to his shoulder, pointing it at them. He then walked away heading down Madison Boulevard until they lost sight of him.

•Ralph Eugene Meadows, 39, 137 Booker Street, Athens, was charged with criminal trespass and disorderly conduct after he allegedly tried to kick in the front door of his ex-girlfriend’s residence with a bat in his hand.
•Connie Diane Duncan, 33, 1464 Duffell Martin Road, Comer, was charged with disorderly conduct after officers were summoned to her house regarding a domestic dispute with her husband. When officers arrived, she reportedly kept cursing in front of her daughter despite being told to calm down and stop. She also called one of the officers an “@#$%%%.

•Charlie C. Carruth, 57, 10 Fleming MHP, Comer, was charged with loitering and carrying a concealed weapon after he was found riding his bike at night in the middle of Colbert-Danielsville Road. The officer stopped him and found that he was carrying a large knife under his shirt and a pair of num chucks.
