The city of Ila may be getting an adult video store within its city limits.
City clerk Susan Steed told Ila city council members last week that she had received a business license request to open an adult video store. City attorney Pat Graham said he had researched the matter and that the city currently has no ordinance that would prohibit the store obtaining a license.
Graham then read a proposed ordinance to “regulate the licensure of adult entertainment establishments” within Ila city limits. Council members were asked to read over the ordinance in order to take a vote on the matter at their August 1 business meeting, though this will have no effect on the current request.
In other business, the council approved an intergovernmental agreement between the city and county for county election superintendent Cody Cross to serve as Ila’s election superintendent for the upcoming Nov. 6 general election. Steed reported that new state regulations disqualify her from serving as election superintendent as she has in the past. Attorney Graham will now present the agreement to the board of commissioners for their approval.
The council voted to submit Lord/Locust, Rock, Crawford and Westbrook streets to the state’s 2012 Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG) program for repaving assistance.
The council also voted to accept an estimate from Oconee Well Drillers for installing a wireless control system in the city’s well #2 at a cost of $3,500. The council agreed that the cost cannot exceed $3,961, which is the amount of GEFA funds still available.
The council heard from councilman Nathaniel Hobbs that a stop sign on the end of North Westbrook Street had been hit and is bent over.
The council also heard from councilwoman Peggy Freeman that she had received a complaint about Pat’s Swap Shop putting merchandise and vehicles too close to the edge of the road on Saturday mornings, interfering with some residents being able to pull out of their driveways.
Steed said she would notify the Department of Transportation about both issues since both involve the state’s right-of-way.
The council will hold a budget workshop following their Aug. 1 business meeting.
Of course, this business person(who must be pretty stupid-probably hasn't heard of the internet)may have other intentions. Maybe nude dancing would be their next step? Ila definitely would be the best place to locate such an establishment. I'm sure the numbers work pretty well.
Sounds like this person might be one of our county commissioners. lol!
I wonder how will this make Ila look? You can't buy beer within the city limits of Ila BUT you can go rent porn within the city limits? I didn't think there was that many Porn FREAKS in Ila? Here's a suggestion open a full video store. Since Vision Video closed in Danielsville there is nowhere close to rent movies no more?
The City of Ila may want to look at the North Fulton County City of Milton's fight against such stores for guidance. It's not an easy fight.
I can see that row of storefronts in Ila now: adult video, tatoo shop, gun and pawn shop mixed in with the hair salon, art and craft consignment and groomer.
If they want to rent porn that's fine have a section or a room with all the dirty movies in it but still have the family movies on the shelf too?
