Bogart man arrested on meth charges

Barry Mandrill Pope, 37, 1270 Barber Creek Road, was charged with a seat belt violation, driving while license withdrawn, illegal possession of a controlled substance, possession of a Schedule III controlled substance, and two counts of possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance.

According to Zellner’s report, he stopped the Toyota Camry and made contact with Pope, who at first told him his name was “Timothy Patman” and that his birthdate was Aug. 8, 1970.

Further checking revealed that his name was actually Barry Mandrill Pope with a birthdate of Aug. 9, 1974. He reportedly told Zellner that his license was suspended, which was why he lied about his name. When asked if he had anything illegal in his possession he reportedly said that he did not think so, but to “look.” A search of the vehicle produced a large amount of methamphetamine and synthetic drugs, plastic baggies, scales, several smoking devices and a large amount of currency.

His vehicle was towed and he was taken to the Madison County Jail.

In another arrest, an Athens man was charged last week after he fled the custody of the Comer police last March.

Nicholas Alexander Atkinson, 19, 390 Jockey Club Drive, was charged with escape, theft by taking, unlawful to hinder or obstruct an official in the detection or destruction of a destructive device and possession of marijuana less than an ounce.

•Ryan Wesley Porterfield, 44, homeless, criminal trespass, battery and dumping waste under 500 pounds or 100 cubic feet in volume (not biomedical/hazardous/commercial).

•Tony Christopher Baxter, 36, 991 Adams Clarke Road, Commerce, driving while license suspended.

•Monique Renea Callaway, 31, 9050 Hwy. 106 South, Lot 10, Hull, possession of marijuana less than an ounce, improper stopping on roadway and driver must apply for a new license within 60 days of a change of name or change of address.

•Kenneth Carruth, 45, 250 Alberta Drive, Colbert, sexual offender - fail to register/provide false information.

•Sharon Jane Coon, 50, 224 South Peter Street, Athens, failure to appear.

•Patricia Lachlle Daniel, 21, 21 Freeman Circle, Colbert, probation violation.
