Area woman killed in driveway car accident

An 80-year-old woman was killed in a Cardinal Lane, Commerce, yard Friday morning when she was struck by a car driven by another woman who did not see her.

According to the incident report, Rachel Martin, 145 Cardinal Lane, had been sitting on the front porch at the residence as another woman, who was not identified, was leaving the residence.

“(The driver) stated that as she was backing her car in the driveway area, she did not realize that Rachel had walked behind her car, and she struck her with her vehicle,” the deputy who investigated the accident stated on the incident report.

Martin was pronounced dead at the scene. The report did not indicate that charges were filed.
