The elections of 2012 await. But there’s some business to handle at the ballot box this year, too.
Local municipal elections will be held Nov. 8 and qualifying for several city seats is being held this week.
Here are the qualifying details:
•In Carlton, all seats at the council table will be up for election. Those posts are currently held by Mayor Rufus Kidd and council members David Seawright, Mike Jones, Claudia Thornton, Joey Cash and Terry Kidd (no relation to the mayor). Qualifying will be held Aug. 29 to Sept. 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at city hall. Qualifying fees are $45 for the mayor’s post and $30 for council seats. All posts are two-year terms and begin Jan. 1, 2012.
•In Colbert, the mayor’s post held by Chris Peck and two council seats held by Tim Wyatt and Roger Fortson will be up for grabs. Qualifying will be held Aug. 29, 30, 31 between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Colbert City Hall. The qualifying fee for mayor is $116.76 and $47.55 for the council seats. The terms for all seats are two years and begin Jan. 1, 2012.

In Comer, the mayor’s post currently held by David McMickle along with two council seats held by Howard Threlkeld and Kevin Booth will be on the ballot in November. Qualifying for the seats will be Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 29-31, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Qualifying fees are $60 for mayor and $45 for council seats. The mayor’s seat is a two-year term. Council posts carry four-year terms.

In Danielsville, the mayor’s seat, currently held by Philip Croya, along with council seats one and two, held by Ron Faust and Jamie Spurlin, will be up for grabs. Qualifying for those seats will be Monday, Aug. 29, through Friday, Sept. 2, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at Danielsville City Hall. The qualifying fee for mayor is $82.19 and $59.23 for the council seats. The terms for all seats are two years and begin Jan. 1, 2012.

In Hull, a seat vacated by Brandon Fortson will be up for grabs Nov. 8. Qualifying will be held at Hull City Hall Aug. 30 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Aug. 31 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 1 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The qualifying fee for the seat is $19.50. The term is for four years, beginning Jan. 1, 2012.

In Ila, the mayor’s post held by Mike Coile and two council seats held by Troy Butler and Peggy Freeman are up for election in November. Qualifying will be Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 29-31, from 9 a.m. to noon at Ila city hall. Qualifying fees are $45 for mayor and $33.75 for council seats. The terms are for four years and will begin Jan. 1, 2012.
