It may be an election “off-year” but residents of Danielsville, Comer and Carlton will have a chance to vote in municipal elections this November.
In Danielsville, there will be an election between council seat incumbent Jamie Spurlin and candidate Tobye Keith Payne. Incumbent councilman Ron Faust will face William (Tim) Stamps. Mayor Philip Croya is the lone qualifier for mayor.
In Comer, former mayor Billy Burroughs will run against newcomer Jody Blackmon for the mayor’s seat. Current mayor David McMickle did not qualify for a second term.
Incumbent district 3 councilman Howard Threlkeld will face challenger Estelle Gilstrap.
Claudia Gantt and Brian Fortson will run for the district 2 council seat currently held by Kevin Booth, who did not qualify for another term.
Carlton will have a mayor’s race for the first time in many years. Long-time mayor Rufus Kidd will face competition from council member David Michael (Mike) Jones. Current council members Claudia Thornton, Joey D. Cash, Terry G. Kidd and David Seawright have all qualified to retain their positions on the councils. They will run against newcomer candidates Ronald D. Turner and John Bradley (Brad) Bird. The top five vote getters will win a council seat, according to city clerk Karen Hedgelon.
Colbert will not have an election – current mayor Chris Peck and council members Tim Wyatt and Roger Fortson all qualified without opposition.
In the city of Hull, Larry Mills has qualified to fill the seat Brandon Fortson held, so no election is required.
The same is true for Ila, where Mayor Mike Coile and council members Troy Butler and Linda Freeman were the lone qualifiers for their positions.
