Comer’s Jerry Ediger is a husband, father, teacher and church worker.
And this Sunday, Ediger will be the keynote speaker at a special memorial service at 6 p.m. at the Madison County Middle School hosted by the Madison County Ministerial Association for the tenth anniversary of Sept. 11, 2011.
After all, he faced his own personal “9/11” when he became paralyzed as a teenager.
Ediger was playing in the 1983 state football championships for his Henderson, Nebraska team, when he tackled a guy in the first play of the last game and broke his neck.
At first, Ediger couldn’t move anything below his neck, but after four months of treatment at Craig Hospital in Denver, Colorado, he regained some function in his arms and hands.
“It’s wonderful that I can write, feed myself and drive, which gives me some independence,” Ediger said. “God is so gracious.”
