The drought is over.
Madison County got in the win column Friday, downing Winder-Barrow in an overtime thriller, 42-35.
It wasn’t easy.
In a flash, Madison County fell behind 21-0 to Winder-Barrow Friday night, surrendering three touchdowns in a 160-second span in the late first quarter and early second quarter.
But after nine quarters of action in 2011 and just 14 points, the Red Raiders found some offense Friday, roaring back with 42 points in the final three quarters of play, led by tough running from senior Trae Burton, who took over at signal caller in the second half for the injured Alex Jordan, who suffered a knee injury.

Red Raiders down Winder in come-from-behind thriller
Madison County’s Keidrick Curry scored on a run from six yards out with 7:40 to go in the second to get the Red Raiders on the board, cutting the Winder lead to 21-7. Madison County scored again on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Jordan to Burton with 1:48 to go, then knotted the score at 21 on a 53-yard pick-six by Trey Carruth.
Winder scored twice in the second half from 80 yards or more, with an 80-yard run on the first play from scrimmage in the third quarter and an 86-yard kickoff return.
But Madison County kept punching back, with Burton hitting T.J. Skelton with a 19-yard strike on third and 14 for a score to knot the game at 28. Winder returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown. But Burton carried the ball in from 13 yards to tie the game at 35.
Burton then scored in overtime from three yards out to give the Red Raiders the victory.
