After years of effort and manual labor at the city’s expense, the Colbert City Council unanimously decided to purchase the old Colbert school building Sept. 12.
“I recently sat down with Jim Patton (chairman of the county school board) to discuss the old Colbert school building, and we came to the conclusion that the county couldn’t do anything with it in the condition that it’s in and we can’t do anything with it because we don’t officially own it,” said Mayor Chris Peck. “So for the price of $50,000 we can purchase the old school from them, and finally take ownership of those buildings.”
Council member Bert Robinson inquired about the funding for such a large purchase.
