Athens man charged with pedestrian under the influence

Eric Montreal Smith, 20, 332 Norwood Circle, was charged with simple battery against a police officer, pedestrian under the influence of alcohol or drugs, possession of alcohol by a minor and two counts of obstruction. A companion with Smith was not charged.

According to the incident report, officer Josh Fowler reportedly saw two subjects walking in the road while patrolling Norwood Lane. Smith appeared to be intoxicated, but refused to submit to a breath test. He struggled with officers trying to handcuff him and was tasered to bring him under control. During the struggle, Smith reportedly struck Fowler in the eye.

In another arrest, Terry Phillip Cadwell, 23, 1115 Aderhold Rogers Road, Commerce, was charged with DUI and passing in a no-passing zone after he reportedly passed a chicken truck in a no-passing zone while the officer was behind him.
