A man and woman got into a physical altercation last week on Faye Carey Road following another couple’s argument over banana pudding.
A woman there said the fight started when she tried to intervene in the banana pudding argument and instead began arguing with the woman’s husband and “put her finger in his face.” He reportedly pushed her back, knocking her on her back. No injuries were seen on either person, the officer noted.
Other incidents reported this week included:
•A Hull man was arrested last week after a patrol officer noticed he was unsteady on his feet after he exited his vehicle. Preston Dean Lunsford, 18, 150 Three Rivers Court, Hull, was charged with DUI/alcohol/controlled substance present in blood/urine and violation of intermediate license after officer Brandon Hanley spotted him at the Golden Pantry on Hwy. 106 in Hull. Hanley noted that Lunsford appeared unsteady on his feet and that his body was twitching as he tried to pump gas. When Hanley confronted him, Lunsford told the officer that he had taken three oxycodones, several hits of meth and smoked a couple of joints. A blood test was conducted at Ty Cobb Hospital and Lunsford was then taken to jail.
•Officers were notified by the Department of Corrections that a man convicted as a sex offender would be residing at 2744 Shiloh-Ft. Lamar Road when he was released from prison. The man did not report to the sheriff’s office and a check of the residence showed that it appeared to be unoccupied. The whereabouts of the subject were unknown at the time of the report.
•A woman on Brush Creek Road reported that she has been receiving numerous voice mails and text messages from her ex-boyfriend since they broke up Sept. 3. Officer Wesley Bryant listened to some of the messages and read some of the texts, which he noted were of a “provoking and somewhat of a threatening nature.”
•A pick-ax was reportedly stolen from a locked storage building in a man’s backyard on Pleasant Acres Farm Road.
•Officer Patrick Holl was summoned to Athens Regional First Care last week in regard to a 4-year old girl being touched inappropriately by a 43-year old man. The incident reportedly occurred on Old Elberton Road. No further details were available.
•Statutory rape was reported on Hill Lake Road.
•Aggravated battery was reported when officers found two inmates fighting in a jail pod. One inmate had a broken nose from the altercation.
•A juvenile male was charged with disrupting public school after he acted disruptive in his detention class.
•A man on Hwy. 174 reported that his pistol was stolen overnight from his unlocked truck.
•Copper and aluminum were taken from an a/c unit at Liberty Church on Hwy. 106 North.
•A couple on Pine Valley Farm Road reported that someone in a red car with Georgia Bulldog tag pulled up in their yard and stole a battery from an old chair beside the house.
•Burglary and theft by taking were reported on Fourth Street in Colbert when a man there said someone had enter his outbuilding and taken a number items, including a logging chain, weedeater and various tools. A chain saw was also taken from the back porch. An older model Ford Ranger with a blue stripe on each side was reportedly spotted leaving the driveway very quickly. It was occupied by two young white males, according to the witness, who was unable to get the tag number.
•Officers were called to a domestic dispute between a mother and her 15-year-old daughter on Forest Lane last week. There were no injuries reported.
•Shopping carts were reportedly stolen from the back of the Dollar General store on Glenn Carrie Road last week. The carts were blue and commonly called “U-boats,” according to an employee at the store.
•Two males at the high school were charged with disrupting public school and simple battery of a school teacher after they got in a fight in a classroom at the high school The teacher’s arm was injured while reportedly trying to break up the fight.
•A juvenile was charged with theft by receiving stolen property (an iPod) at school.
•Officers were summoned to Pinetree Road where neighbors were reportedly outside shooting their guns. Officer Jeff Strickland spoke with a woman who said she was outside shooting her firearm at targets when she heard a shot come from next door, and her next-door neighbor cursing and screaming at her. She and her husband then reportedly walked next door to confront the neighbor, who allegedly cursed and yelled at them, telling them she was going to kill them. At that point they walked out in the roadway and called 9-1-1. The neighbor said that the couple was shooting toward her house and she got scared. She said she walked outside and shot in the air once and told them to stop. At that point, the couple came to her residence and she also called 9-1-1. The three were able to talk with each other, according to the report, and work out their argument. No one wanted to press charges.
•A man and woman on Williamson Drive reported that they found a dead dog at the corner of the woman’s property and that they believed another neighbor was responsible for its death. The man stated that this neighbor has shot dogs that went on his property and has freely admitted that he would shoot any dog that came on his property. The dog appeared to have been shot behind the shoulder and dead several days. The pair said the dog did not belong to either of them, but that they had seen it on occasion in the neighborhood. They wanted to know if the bullet could be removed for investigative purposes. The man said he had seen the suspect holding a dead black dog in the past.
•A woman on Cheek Pulliam Road reported that items such as a chainsaw went missing after a tree service began parking in her yard. The owner said he would pay for the items, and that he told her he wouldn’t be parking on her property any more.
•Battery was reported on Hidden Falls Drive last week after a woman said her husband had continuously beaten her for two days. She said he grabbed her by the hair, threw her down, hit her, kicked her, and then beat her with a shoe. She said she thought her ankle was broken from the incident. She said the last night he threw her out of the house and she slept in her car in the carport. The woman had bruising on both arms, legs, left side and left shoulder.
•A man on Hardman Hooper Road reported that he is concerned for his child’s welfare after he found some bruises on his body two weeks before. He said that when he went to take the child home to his mother, the child screamed and did not want to go. The father said he believes the mother and another man are abusing the child and that their residence is not sanitary. Officer Andrew Wilkes then went to the mother’s home and the mother said her son got the bruises from falling off the toilet while they were trying to potty train him. Wilkes advised the father to report any more suspicions to DFCS.
•A two-vehicle wreck occurred on Hwy. 72 near Goss Lane last week. One vehicle landed in the ditch. No one was transported. Colbert VFD, the sheriff’s office, Georgia State Patrol, as well as Comer and Danielsville rescues responded to the scene.
•Trash inside a garbage truck reportedly caught on fire on Hwy. 29 North at Bluestone Baptist Church. Shiloh VFD responded to the call. No one was injured.
•A 1979 Malibu Classic Sedan caught on fire last week on Dillard Road. Neese-Commerce VFD responded. The driver could not be immediately located. Several car parts melted to the road and the road department was called to scrape the road.
