Two men were arrested after they allegedly made a drug deal in the lower parking lot at Food Mart on Hwy. 98.
Adam Godsted Beem, 31, 2704 Kimberland Court, Statham was charged with possession and use of drug-related objects, while Bryan Mitchell Key, 26, 1529 Nowhere Road, Dewy Rose, was charged with illegal possession of a controlled substance.
According to the incident report, officer Josh Fowler was called to the store regarding a suspicious vehicle that had been parked in the parking lot for about half an hour. When he arrived he found two vehicles — a Toyota pick up and a Dodge Intrepid — parked at the lower end of the parking lot. Beem said they were there because he was going to follow Key back to his residence to go fishing. While Fowler talked to Beem in the truck, a spoon with burnt marks on the bottom and a piece of cotton stuck to it fell out of a bag at his feet. A loaded needle was also in the bag. Key then attempted to get in his vehicle and leave until the officer asked him to stop. Beem’s wife reportedly told Fowler that the real reason they were there was to purchase a “Roxicodone,” (narcotic) which they had done.
In another arrest, Bernard Davis Appling, 52, 277 Valley Road, Colbert, was charged with possession of pistol or revolver by a convicted felon and reckless conduct after he allegedly went to his neighbor’s home on Valley Road twice during the night being disorderly and cursing at them. The second time, when they wouldn’t come to the door, he reportedly fired his gun and that’s when they called 9-1-1. Appling denied having a gun, but it was found wrapped in a towel near the well house.
