Madison County celebrated its 200th anniversary with a large outdoor festival at Madison County Memorial Park Sept. 24.
There were numerous activities on the sunny Saturday, including gunny sack races, greased pig contest, hog calling contest, face painting, a costume contest, a hula hoop contest, corn husk doll making, butter churning, blacksmithing, three legged races, cake walk, bucket brigade, hay rides, dunking booth and more.
“A lot of grandparents were watching their grandkids do things they used to do,” said BOC chairman Anthony Dove, who thanked county employees for volunteering to work the festival. “It was really a good day and we need to give a big thank you to the bicentennial committee. They did it without any taxpayer money.”
