Photos of Madison County veterans will be placed on a banner and carried down Fifth Avenue in New York on Veterans Day Nov. 11.
The images of those Madison County military folks will be carried by Madison County High School band members, many of whom will enjoy “the trip of a lifetime,” visiting Washington and New York in the same week, while also competing in the band national championships in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
“Some of these kids have not been out of the state,” said MCHS band director Nick Golding. “So for some of them, this may be a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
The MCHS band has performed an unusual and well-received halftime show this year, “Heroes Fallen, Not Forgotten.” The show is in recognition of the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. The show includes large displays of iconic American imagery: the face of Abraham Lincoln, the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima, the Twin Towers on Fire.
