A Colbert man was arrested recently after he allegedly tried to choke his girlfriend.
Jerry Lean Thomas, 44, 5657 Hwy. 29 South, Lot 8, was charged with simple battery FVA and disorderly conduct.
According to the incident report, officer Jason Luke was dispatched to Diamond Hill Mobile Home Park in reference to a dispute between two men. When he arrived, he found the victim’s son and his girlfriend outside the mobile home. The son said he and the woman were sitting on the porch when they heard Thomas being belligerent and yelling at his mother inside the home.
When he heard a crash, he went inside to find Thomas allegedly choking his mother with his hands around her throat. He then pulled Thomas off her and struck him in the face three times with his fist, patting him down for weapons because Thomas had allegedly told him the night before that he had a gun.
The victim corroborated her son’s story, saying that Thomas had been drinking since about 5 p.m. She said he first hit her with a stick and then threw her on the floor and began choking her. Thomas’s injuries were checked out by EMS and he was then taken to jail.
