A Danielsville man was arrested recently after he allegedly spanked two children leaving bruises on their bodies.
Zachary David Buttimer, 30, 164 Country Lane, was arrested on two counts of cruelty to children after officer Pat Holl was summoned to Ila Elementary School by a DFCS worker who said that two children were found to have bruises on their buttocks. DFCS and school officials said the bruises were “the worst bruising they had seen.”
The children said they were spanked by their mother’s boyfriend (Buttimer) every five minutes until their room was cleaned. One of the children said they had received 11 hits each from a belt. Both children said their mother was away at Walmart with another child while the spanking occurred and that she didn’t know about it. Holl was shown photos of the bruises, which were on the children’s buttocks and hips.
The bruises were discovered after one of the children’s teachers noticed that the child was having trouble staying in his seat and was told by the child that it “hurt to sit down.
Holl then went to the residence and spoke with Buttimer, who reportedly admitted to spanking the children with a belt. He was arrested and taken to jail.
In another arrest, Gregory Keith Marable, 47, 615 Buddy Moore Road, Colbert, was charged with simple assault FVA and disorderly conduct involving two separate incidents. In the first incident, a neighbor of Marable’s called 9-1-1 in reference to Marable making threats toward him.
The man said that due to several incidents he had started recording Marable when he made threats. Once Marable discovered that he was being recorded, he allegedly shouted across the street making threats to break the man’s legs. This threat was also recorded by the neighbor, and officer Chad Parr wrote in his report that he could hear Marable threatening to break the man’s “%*&^%$#@ legs.” About 20 minutes later, Parr was sent back to the location where he met with a woman who said Marable had swung a shovel at her. She said Marable had been drinking and became belligerent with her, swinging the shovel and hitting her on the shoulder at one point. He then grabbed her purse and threw it across the road. Parr then went inside the residence and arrested Marable.
