Madison County lost to Loganville 7-1 Thursday evening in the Region 8-AAAA fast-pitch softball championship.
The visiting Red Raiders scored their lone run in the top of the first inning when Sam LaZear crossed home plate on a squeeze bunt by Olivia Duncan.
But Loganville answered with four runs in the bottom of the first and three in the bottom of the fifth, handing Madison County (25-5) its worst loss of the season. The Red Raiders loaded the bases twice Thursday with one out, but failed to score either time.
The Red Raiders enter the state tournament next week as the region’s number two seed. The squad will open the tournament at home Wednesday against an opponent to be announced later.
