A Comer woman was arrested on drug charges last week after a traffic stop in Watson Mill State Park.
Nikki Herring Coston, 44, 55 Ivy Street, Apt. 6, was charged with possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and prescription drugs not in their original container.
According to the incident report, officer Dennis Harbison was on patrol in the park when he observed a small white car parked in the parking lot next to the covered bridge. Coston and another person were in the car. When Harbison pulled into the lot, Coston and her passenger put their seatbelts on and attempted to drive away. Harbison initiated traffic stop in the parking lot and asked Coston for her driver’s license, explaining that he stopped her because the sheriff’s office had been receiving complaints about drug use in the park. Coston consented to her vehicle being searched and Harbison found a narcotic (Lortabs) in her purse in an over-the-counter Midol container.

what drug use seems like pretty bullcrap stop and wish this lady had said no you cant search my car or purse.
this was from the start a bullcrap stop.
You don't have to let law enforcement search your car unless they have a warrant. I always worry that a bad cop will plant drugs or whatever in order to make a case or "solve" a case. Keep the windows closed and, if you are asked to get out of the car, take the key and lock the car when you are out. You can say it was force of habit. When "asked" to look in your car, simply say you would rather the officer did not do so; don't be intimidated into the search. Of course, always be polite and as cooperative as is practical.
Advantage? Police.
