Ila officials voted earlier this month to hire Harrison and Harrison to proceed with water line replacement on King Street at a cost of $57,618. The council heard a presentation from Michael Freeman about specifications and estimates for the project given by Harrison and Harrison.
Attorney Pat Graham advised the council that they did not have to seek bids on city projects of less than $100,000.
Councilman Nathaniel Hobbs stated that he does not believe in spending public funds without the bid system, but he feels that in this case it will be in the citizens’ best interest to proceed with getting this project done in order to supply the residents of King Street with fire protection.
The council decided to submit Cemetery Street, Sewell Mill Road, Westbrook Street, Crawford Street and Glenn Street for consideration in the state’s 2009 LARP program.
The council agreed to proceed with a plaque for the city’s new flagpole at a cost of approximately $450.
