Danielsville VFD to host ‘Mull for Blood’ next month

Perry said their previous blood drives generally raise 20 – 25 pints total, hence the special incentive to blood donors this time. “Each donor who donates a pint of blood will receive a quart of our ‘famous’ chicken mull,” Perry said.

Though the blood drive was already underway, Wilson said that blood donation has become very near and dear to his heart, quite literally. He suffered a heart attack in September and was about to undergo heart bypass surgery soon after this interview.

“I will likely need blood during my surgery,” Wilson said prior to his surgery. “This has taken on a whole new meaning to me.”

Wilson said he has told Red Cross representatives they “better come prepared, because our mull is famous around here.”

Perry said there will no mull for sale that day – all mull prepared will go to those who donate blood. “If you can’t donate, get a buddy to donate and you split it with them,” Perry laughingly said.

The fire department also plans to have information on hand about disaster preparedness and other health-related topics.

Perry said there is always a need for blood donations, and that the need generally becomes more critical during the holidays.

As for Wilson, he says he has every intention of being at the blood drive to support it and those who come to donate.

“This is something we all need to do,” Wilson said.
