Winder man arrested after failing to dim headlights
A Winder man was arrested on traffic and drug charges recently after an officer stopped him in Colbert for failing to dim his headlights.
David Keith Wagner, 31, 1046 Octavia Court, was charged with failure to dim headlights, driving while license suspended or revoked, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies.
Wagner reportedly told officer Chad Parr that he did not have his license on him, and that they might have been suspended for an unpaid ticket. After Wagner was arrested on this charge, he told Parr that he had a gun under the front seat. During the search Parr also found a digital scale with a methamphetamine residue on it.
Other incidents on file recently included:
•Two women on Leon Street reported that someone has opened a Windstream account in one of the women’s names without her knowledge. It now has a balance of $480. They named two suspects who they are afraid of because of past abuse. They were explained the TPO process.
•A woman on Blacks Creek Church Road reported that she has gotten numerous phone calls from a number she does not recognize. She said the caller does not say anything. Her boyfriend, who is going through a divorce, said that he answered the phone during one call and told the caller that he would file a police report if the calls continued. A short time later, the woman received a text message from the same number that said, “I’m so scared.”
•A man on Macedonia Church Road reported that his ex-girlfriend used his Visa debit card to rent a vehicle. He said she identified herself to the rental company as his wife. The woman was to return the car on Nov. 10. There are reportedly several valid warrants for her in Georgia and Florida. A second report was filed later, reporting that the ex-girlfriend has likely tapped into the couple’s bank account and had all email notifications, etc. forwarded to her email address. The man said she knows all his personal information and could easily modify any open accounts of his. Two other fraudulent charges were noted to the account. The couple was advised to change their accounts immediately.
•A man on Wesley Chapel Road reported that his home had been burglarized and ransacked while he was gone from home overnight.
•A woman on Transco Road reported that her ex-husband, who she has not seen for 22 years, made a threatening phone call to her. She said he stated that she had “some fine daughters” and they better “watch their back.” She said she told him to leave them alone and hung up. She said he must have seen her daughters (from a different marriage) on Facebook. She said her daughters have also been receiving phone calls the last several weeks and when they answer, the caller hangs up. She was advised to contact the sheriff’s office if there were any more problems.
•Warrants were to be issued for a man who allegedly attacked his girlfriend during a birthday party for one of their kids. She said her boyfriend had been arguing with her all day and yelling obscenities at her. His mother was there when the attack occurred and allegedly pulled her son off the victim.
•A man on Nowhere Road reported that a man he knows had called and harassed him threatening to beat his “&$%” and other obscenities.
•A man on Peach Orchard Road reported that a black male who he had asked to help him move his furniture, stopped his car prior to arriving at the residence and stated that he needed money for gas. When the man pulled out his wallet, the offender allegedly grabbed the wallet and punched him in the left eye. The officer noted that the victim’s eye was swollen, but he refused medical treatment. He said he did not want to press charges.
•Several items including the air conditioning unit and ductwork were reportedly stolen from a bank-owned vacant trailer on Osley Mill Road.
•A man on Crabapple Hollow Road reported that wiring had been taken from a hay baler he left in a field.
•Two large Husky-type dogs reportedly attacked and killed a goat, seven chickens, three ducks and four peacocks in a yard on James Spring Road.
•A woman on Jack Sharp Road reported that her Social Security check in the amount of $741 had been fraudulently deposited in Columbus. She was advised by the Social Security office to file a report.
•A middle school student was charged with simple battery after he reportedly assaulted another student during lunch in the cafeteria.
•Simple battery FVA was reported on Hudson River Church Road last week. A man was picked up by the Georgia State Patrol and brought to the scene. The man was agitated and had fight marks on his face. He said his girlfriend had fought with him and that he got out of the car. Witnesses stated that she attempted to run him over and he threw a log at the car as it left the scene. The woman was found at their home, also agitated, and said that he went to get some “medicine” up the road and that she went to pick him up to keep him out of trouble. They argued when she found him, she said, and she said she left the scene after throwing wood at him. She said her arm was in a sling from an argument they had a week ago.
•Scrap copper was reportedly stolen from a garage on Greenridge Court.
•A man on Collins Dudley Road reported that someone stole his deer stand and a metal chair that was in a deer blind on his mother’s property.
•A ninth grader was charged with disrupting public school and unruly child when she reportedly refused to give her teacher her cell phone after she was found texting in class. She also refused to turn over a lighter that was in her back pocket.
•Two male high school students were charged with disrupting public school after a teacher witnessed them fighting in the hallway.
•A man on Hwy. 29 South reported that someone had used his debit card fraudulently in California.
•A juvenile and his mother came to the sheriff’s office last week where the juvenile confessed that he had lied to police following an accident when he said he had been driving the vehicle. He said he was actually in the bed of the truck and that his friend, also a juvenile, was driving. The boy apologized for the lie. The state patrol was contacted and given a copy of the report.
•A man who previously lived on Sherwood Circle reported that his credit card company alerted him that several fraudulent transactions had been attempted on his card.
•Burglary was reported on Norman Dove Road last week when a man reported that his medication, food items and $8,500 in cash had been taken. A side door to the residence had been kicked open and someone also attempted to kick open the front door, according to the report.
•A single-vehicle accident with injuries was reported on Prospect Road, Colbert, at 3 p.m. on Halloween. One occupant of the vehicle suffered a leg injury and another was reportedly bleeding from the head.
•A person traveling on a motorcycle reportedly struck a deer on Hwy. 29 at Clark Circle and complained of pain on his left side.
•A vehicle ran into a ditch on Paoli Road just off Hwy. 72.
•A structure fire was reported Nov. 6 at 1215 Brush Creek Road, Colbert.
•A structure fire was reported at a trailer at 1970 Pine Valley Road Nov. 7.
