Christmas in Comer set for Saturday

The 2011 annual Christmas Parade in Comer will be held Saturday at 2 p.m.

The theme, “Christmas Through the Years,” was selected to honor the Madison County Bicentennial.

Entertainment on both grandstands will begin at 1 p.m. In addition to performances by Tommy Hall, the Comer, Danielsville, and Ila Elementary School Choruses will entertain with music of the season.

Earlier in the day, the annual Reindeer Run/Walk will begin at Arnold Park. This event is sponsored by the Madison County Recreation Department. The paved 5K (3.1 mile) fast course is relatively flat with some rolling hills and offers the runner (or walker) a nice mixture of residential, rural and recreational scenery.

The other special event of the day is the Christmas Festival at the Comer Elementary School. This fun event, sponsored by the school and the school PTO, will begin just after the Reindeer Run and will continue until just prior to the parade. There will be activities for children in the gym and a special barbecue chicken lunch will be served at the school at a cost of $6 per plate.

The weekend will conclude on Sunday evening Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. along Main Street with the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Service.

“Entertainment will be provided and local churches will combine to offer a program of seasonal inspiration that is sure to put everyone attending in the Christmas spirit,” event planners said. “Everyone is welcome to celebrate ‘Christmas in Comer’ the first weekend in December.”
