The Madison County Industrial Development and Building Authority agreed Nov. 21 to apply for a $1.5 million Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) loan/grant package to enable a water system connection on Hwy. 29 North with Franklin County’s water system.
IDA executive director Marvin White said the package, if approved, will include a $450,000 grant and a $1,000,050 loan at three percent.
In other action Monday, the board also approved a $274,300 paving contact with low-bidder Atlanta Paving and Concrete Construction, Inc. to pave Russell Drive and Cooper Road. White said he hopes the project will be completed by the end of the year.
The board approved a water sales agreement with the city of Commerce to purchase water for the Black’s Creek Church Road area at a cost of $3 per thousand gallons.
District 3 commissioner Mike Youngblood appeared before the board to ask for county water service for Virginia Lane, which is currently served by Piedmont Water. White said the board agreed to explore grant options for the project, which he estimated could cost $350,000.
