Madison County continues to fight to keep the “state park” in Watson Mill’s name.
Negotiations between county and state officials over the park are ongoing. The state Department of Natural Resources decided earlier this year to demote the “park” to an “outdoor recreation area.” But Madison County commissioners have adamantly opposed the move, saying that the park, which is partly in both Madison and Oglethorpe counties, is vital for the local economy. They also say that if the park is neglected, it will become a hub for criminal activity.
County officials don’t want the park office to be shut down. They say that the office is needed to allow people to secure reservations at the park facilities. Without the ability to obtain reservations, many park goers won’t visit the grounds, officials say.
State officials proposed that Madison County contribute $25,000 a year to park staff and maintenance costs.
But county officials are countering with an offer to contribute $25,000, not in cash, but with labor.
“We offer to supply office clerks,” wrote BOC chairman Anthony Dove in a Nov. 16 letter to Georgia DNR director Becky Kelley. “We would like to operate the office and would like for this to be an in-kind part of our supplement. We would offer maintenance help also as part of in-kind supplement. Other items on the table for in-kind would be, but not limited to, law enforcement and/or trash pick-up.”
Dove also requested that park reservations be extended through November “because November is the third largest month for equestrian use.”
The chairman said he received an e-mail this week from Kelley that she had received his letter.
“She said they got it and that they’ll look at it,” said Dove, who added that he has spoken with Oglethorpe County officials, who expressed interest in helping with the park.
Dove and the rest of his clowns need to wake up. Madison County, all of Madison County, ALREADY IS a hub for criminal activity!!! Every day property is stolen, someone's HVAC is destroyed by copper crackheads, meth and property crime are all over this county.
And while the meth-heads run rampant, what are Dove, Thomas, Youngblood and the other clowns worried about? A park. A PARK!?!?
Wake up, idiots! Watson Mill is probably the one place where there is no crime, because there is precious little down there TO STEAL!
Get your heads out of your behinds...there ALREADY IS A TON OF CRIMINAL ACTIVITY ALL OVER MADISON COUNTY while you guys pussyfoot around about A PARK!!!
Maybe you should get some sleep and wake up on a better side of your bed instead of calling for others, who are wide awake, to wake up.
I'm not a hunter, but I'm pretty sure you don't shoot deer with a shotgun; you need an absolutely sure shot to the heart to avoid an inhumane death, both for rifle and bow. Since it is a public park, you can't close it to a select few, but culling the deer would be a good idea, especially if I coul get hold of some venison.
Precisely because most internet sites are limited in word processing options, in the lexicon of internet language, capital letters have been universally accepted as shouting. I understand you want to emphasize certain words as you would in speech, but capitalized words are shouting which is rude and uncalled for in civilized society whether spoken or written. Instead of emphasizing words, make your words or sentences strong with clarity and reason.
I feel like I've been watching the redneck version of "My Fair Lady".
It's coming along nicely.
Actually, I'm impressed with your improved writing skills (not that I'm much better) as a result of Ms. Moss' coaching skills.
Keep it up, you're much easier to read and not nearly as dramatic.
Sounds like you have a great family.
To be honest I like Kip Thomas and he has done wonders for Madison Co. but what this County needs is an Old school Redneck HillBilly Sheriff with the Old time chain gangs? One where when you break the law in his county your butt will be on this chain gang picking up trash on the side of the road or doing an honest days work with picks and shovels?
Over i million babies a year killed before seeing the light of day. Going on for 20+ years.
for those babies that are born just weeks after birth they are put in day orphanages where an ever changing number of care givers "raises" the child.
The vote buyers(politicians) then put large numbers of people in institutionalized housing and tell them they are better off than working for something better. They live amongst squalor not much better if any than 3rd world conditions...oh except for the cell phones, cable tv, etc.
In any given location people are fighting over shoes, killing people for $10 hits of meth/crack, etc.
Yea we are way ahead of the other countries of the world.
When I see how covetous people are of stuff, divorce rate over 50%, politicians lying to the people they are supposed to serve, I see animal behavior not civilized behavior.
Imagine a world where the greater good is pursued by all in all of their behavior. No debt, transparency in all dealings and no entitlements. That mirror would show a great image.
Don't worry about what a few lazy folks are doing or not doing. Look after your own welfare for your own future. Your reward will be power over your own life and it won't matter what anybody else thinks.
BTW, your post is very readable with proper question marks even (just one period missing and an inconsequential typo). I didn't even recognize it as yours.
The squeaky wheel...or hoof.
Bet these same riders complain about big government and taxes out of the other side of their mouths.
