Pregnant woman faces drug, battery charges

Rachel Lou Epps, 28, 164 Hwy. 98 East, Danielsville, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of tools for the commission of a crime, pedestrian under the influence of alcohol or drugs and battery on an unborn child.

According to the incident report, officer Jason Luke reported that officers spotted a white female they recognized as Epps walking down the side of Hwy. 98 in front of the residence. She told Luke that she and her boyfriend were “just arguing” and that she had called her father to come pick her up.

As she spoke, Luke noted numerous signs that indicated she was under the influence of methamphetamine, including rapid and hard to understand speech, pinpoint pupils and lack of focus. Her appearance included sunken-in cheeks and eye sockets and small sores on her forehead. Luke questioned Epps about narcotics and she produced a clear zip-lock bag with 10 – 15 hypodermic needles inside and a black and pink leather case containing three more needles, two metal spoons, along with a clear plastic bag containing suspected methamphetamine. Epps also told Luke that she was approximately six months pregnant.

Epps’ boyfriend consented to a search of their home where they found two more needles.

Other arrests on file at the sheriff’s office this week included:

•Leland Darrell Officer, 50, 6748 Hwy. 106 South, Hull, was charged with DUI/alcohol and disorderly conduct after he was arrested by officer Joshua Smith at the Golden Pantry in Danielsville. Smith reported that he was in the store when Officer pulled into the parking lot at a high rate of speed and parked next to his patrol car. He came inside and asked the clerk if he could buy alcohol, but was told it was already past midnight. He then questioned Smith, saying, “I own property near Neese Grocery and wanted to know if I can drive home.” Smith noted that he smelled alcohol on Officer’s breath and that he had glassy, blood shot eyes. Officer allegedly admitted to being drunk, but then cursed and refused to take a roadside breath test. He continued to be loud and combative with Smith, cursing him all the time they were in the parking lot, until he was placed in the patrol car and taken to jail.

•Darren Clayton Poole, 41, 77 Hillwood Circle, Danielsville, was charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly stabbed a man on his front porch during an altercation over his girlfriend.

•Federico Alvear, 23, 1465 Hwy. 29 North, Lot H-28, Athens, weaving over roadway and driving without a valid license.

•Joey Michael Bruce Bishop, 23, 2499 Colbert-Diamond Hill Road, Colbert, DUI/alcohol and weaving over roadway.
