It may be the season of giving, but Danielsville city council members voted unanimously Monday night to take away a provision in their city code that gives city employees a $200 Christmas bonus each year.
The new ordinance leaves a bonus, if any, up to the council’s discretion.
Councilwoman Junne Temple made the motion at the end of the meeting, saying that it was not something the council wanted to do, but that was necessary to achieve a little bit of savings.
“It’s not our pleasure but something that has to be done,” she said.
In other business Monday night, mayor pro-tem Temple swore in newly-elected council member Tim Stamps, who defeated Ron Faust in last month’s elections. She also swore in Mayor Phillip Croya and councilman Jamie Spurlin to second terms.
The council voted to extend police chief Matt Pilkington’s probationary time from Dec. 8 to Feb. 8. Pilkington was hired Aug. 8. The council discussed issues Mayor Croya had with Pilkington in a closed session during November’s council meeting, but took no action.
Temple thanked Pilkington for a detailed police report, including mileage and fuel costs that he provided the council this month.
The council also agreed to make four monthly payments to the city auditors on their 2011 audit.
we voted these people in so remember this when you vote again.
Well, I guess that quote puts things in perspective, doesn't it? Perhaps these days just having a job is good enough. Are any employees complaining? It does seem "dirty pool" to negate this at the last minute when employees have been counting on that $200 all year. They should get the promised $200 together with the future rescending of the promise.
It would be nice if journalists would offer thorough articles covering all things the public might want to know. I get really tired of half-stories, mostly in publications other than the Madison County Journal. Poor journalism is rampant everywhere!
As to bonuses for "higher ups", why make comments about their greed when there is no information here about it? I see ben didn't bet his own "butt" but suggested that others could. Such ridiculous whining!
And I understnd all about the economy but the Mayor and council knew way before Dec. that the employees were not going to get a bonus.
"The term anal-retentive (also anally retentive), commonly abbreviated to anal, is used conversationally to describe a person who pays such attention to detail that the obsession becomes an annoyance to others, and can be carried out to the detriment of the anal-retentive person. The term derives from Freudian psychoanalysis. People who are said to be anal-retentive usually suffer from obsessive–compulsive personality disorder."
The opposite personality is called anal-expulsive; have a good snicker over that one! I never was a fan of Freud. Fortunately, he has been largely debunked.
Why would it mean more if you knew who everyone was? I see no reason why this would be important.
Hey, Ms. Moss, let's get together to talk issues! Maybe the paper could connect us. Oh, wait; then I would lose my anonymity. Not a good idea; never mind.
Thanks for clarifying some things here. Is there any other way for citizens to know what has transpired in City government? These days people expect to find information on the internet. Madison County has video of its commission meetings on its web site. Can citizens access minutes of your meetings on the internet? Perhaps the City could maintain an e-mail list of interested people who could recieve updates of recent meeting minutes to stay informed.
The council lost two honest and hard working individuals that had the chutzpah to TRY and get the City into decent financial shape. The Madison County Commission was in deep trouble until Anthony Dove came on the scene replacing Wesley Nash and doing what was needed to straighten things out.
Some on the City Council of Danielsville, who used to have 30 minute meetings, don't want any changes. And I can't wait to see what happens if Ms. Temple stays Mayor. I doubt she wants the job as she feels too important as a voting council member. I wonder if it isn't time for her to hang it up as she seems to be stuck in her old ways. Who knows?
At least if the City fails and is no longer chartered, some of you whiners will have other things to talk about. Just Saying......
