Madison County Middle School has been open for a few weeks, but its grand introduction to the county will come next Sunday.
Principal Matt Boggs and the middle school staff are eager to show off the new building at a dedication ceremony Sunday, Sept. 7, at 2 p.m.
They hope the unveiling is well-attended.
“Like I’ve said several times, we want the whole community to be proud of this school,” Boggs said. “Because it’s just state-of-the- art. It’s the nicest building that’s ever been built in Madison County.”
While the event is open to all, specific invitations will be sent requesting county commissioners and other county leaders’ attendance.
Middle school students will guide the tours of the 161,147 square foot building, while information will be provided about the construction of the building.
The school will also show off its music program as MCMS chorus and band are both scheduled to perform. The chorus will sing the national anthem.
Former Madison County schools superintendent Keith Cowne, who headed the school system when construction of the school started, is the keynote speaker.
Refreshments will be provided in the solarium.
Madison County schools superintendent Dr. Mitch McGhee said the middle school and central office expect a good turnout, whether permitting next Sunday.
Most parents of students and those involved in education have already seen the building. But this will allow those who normally wouldn’t make a trip to the middle school the chance to walk the plush, new halls.
“This is an open invitation to do so,” McGhee said.
Construction of the $19 million-plus building was completed ahead of schedule for this school year. The building has been opened since the first day of class, Aug. 7.
The new MCMS has three separate academic wings and can house up to 1,300 students. Boggs said the students have adjusted well to their new surroundings.
“It took a couple days for the kids to get acclimated to it,” Boggs said. “After that, it’s like we’ve been here forever.”
